How I would do C.O.D Zombies.

Hey everyone, something different today, I’m quickly writing this before bed but I’ve been watching a lot of Call of Duty Zombies youtubers complaining about Zombies and yeah I must admit Vanguard wasn’t worth the time and shouldn’t have happened, it was forced and I can’t confirm this but I bet it wasn’t Treyarch fully working on it, it was maybe a small team just pumping the mode out because they were forced. Anyway this isn’t me slagging off COD a lot are doing that.

After learning aspects of game dev it’s opened my eyes, playing the classic maps with Benn has brought the nostalgia I missed of Zombies and reminding me things I forgot about the old games and things I’d love to see come back. So what would I do with COD Zombies if I was in charge well strap yourself in because this will be different and in-depth

Ok going to start with a negative, I can’t stand the whole fantasy aspects like Apothicons and medieval knight shit like only aspect of that I liked was the intro of Origin where we saw what looked like a templar and the fact they had blue eyes made me think, oh they are holy knights and hadn’t sinned so they turned with blue eyes. Which is where I’m going to start.

First we get an update to Vanguard that introduces a cutscene which breaks the timeline making the Dark Aether consume itself leading to our Universe, The first map will introduce us to the Zombies, again going back to the Second World War, I know I’m starting with an Indiana Jones story but bare with me, it’s gonna be a massive twist.

The Nazis head to The Canyon of the Crescent Moon where they go to find the Holy Grail believing it will make them immortal warriors, they smash a wall down to find something with glowing blue eyes running towards them, we see the back of a templar eating a nazi like in Origins, a group of 5 mercenaries are sent by both the OSS and SOE go to investigate, little would they know that one of them would betray them and kill them at the temple yet they discovered they have the ability to go into a ethereal form, where they can resurrect their bodies and generate electricity, you return to your human form and return to the OSS and SOE, they form a task force known as P.O.E (Paranormal Operations Executive) from then on you’ll discover that the Holy Grail did grant them eternal life but a cursed one and it didn’t contain the blood of Christ but instead the blood of Caine.

You’ll find out he was corrupted by the meteor of 115 which had fell through a crack in our realm and in doing so his blood was tainted. As the story progresses the Nazi’s try to strip it down to keep them alive but obviously it leads to more monstrous creatures. And you’ll also find out the one who betrayed you had done something to you before he killed you which is he had refined 115 and had turned it into a powder, from orders of a Dr Richtofen.

Ok so I loved how Mob of the Dead worked, well a lot of how Black Ops 2 worked, I think Cold War and Black Ops 2 did a lot of things that were both positive and unique. For one Outbreak, the maps were shit but the gameplay was great, so where do we go with this, well first thing the Zombies Menu, BLACK OPS 2 style that world view worked a treat, where you selected the map you wanted, it zoomed in and you chose the game mode, now take that idea and combine it to outbreak, so for example which I’m also jumping ahead, Verrückt. You select that place, it shows you a map of the Asylum in the centre and the town around it, you click on the Asylum and you are given a choice, Outbreak, Round Based, Classic.

  • Outbreak – You start it like Cold War you infill into that location, you have the open world to hunt Zombies, do both the Storyline easter egg but also side easter eggs which unlock both upgraded weapons, upgraded perks which are permanent and other story points.
  • Round Based – You’re stuck in that area, you still have the Afterlife Mechanic and you can complete the storyline easter egg or see how long you can last.
  • Classic – Again round based but this is classic no Afterlife, you have to get the perks to survive.

So why the world map? well like I said before I thought that was a cool way to interact with the story but one thing I didn’t mention that I only found out when playing Tranzit with Benn was once we completed the easter egg, the icon of the map was glowing, meaning it was complete and I found out if you did all of them they would unlock the ability to do a easter egg for Buried. So there would be a master easter egg that you would have to complete, one you’ll get a secret weapon, a clue for the next game and of course unlock the easter egg songs which you can trigger any in whatever map at any time for as many times as you want.

Ok Afterlife, it would work just like Mob, you would use it to open doors, go in secret areas, power up perk machines hell in fact make them stronger including Pack a Punch, plus you can temporary take control of a zombie just extend your afterlife, so you could jump from up to 3 zombies to get back to your character.

So perks how do they work, well the perks, mystery box and Pack a Punch fall through the cracks of our realm, whilst you are on the map they stay where they are but once you leave, they fade from existence, you can upgrade them by mixing them with certain items from crates that are dropped in, when mixed they are temporary so once you leave the game you loose those upgrades unless you’ve done a side easter egg to get them upgraded, Pack a Punch is still the same but you can find parts to make those guns have more of a kick like the addons from Cold War.

Ok Verrückt is the main one, I love the map and I will again be going back to this map in due time. I loved how Cold War brought back Nacht but expanded on it, I would love to see Verrückt come back like it, you look out the window you see a town, you locked in the building but the area looks interesting, so I would like to see more of that map hell theres one part that got another floor that overlooks the site, I wonder what would be in there so like the place would be more open.

One map is of course, VVaypoint you know where I’m going, Paris!!! a massive open world of that map but you have to fight to the top of the tower, each floor you fight a harder, different boss before finally getting to the top and fight a giant boss this could be a robot, a flying monster or a electrical creature that uses the metal structure to teleport and set certain areas into dangerous areas for a limited time.

One map would be in London, to be specific which a lot of people know about me keep going on about, Aldwych Station, the base of the P.O.E where the antagonist attacks them, the only map that wouldn’t be outbreak, you would learn more about your abilities and your past. The objective, to escape from the horde and destroy everything so it doesn’t fall into the wrong hands.

Final map, this one would bring everything COD Zombies is known for, time is unstable, you and your team jump in a plane, you’re flying in the dark, a storm is brewing, suddenly the plane is hit, you crash. You wake up in a daze, an army is walking around the area, something is coming, something is running, it’s a ZOMBIE.  Boom you and your team are in no mans land, the dead are everywhere, in the distance you see a compound, you fight every Z to get to it, you jump over the sandbags and your team put the boards up, you hear that signature sound and you see a number 1 appear. You’re in Nacht back where it started, you’re the troops of the original map, it would start how you think it would, the zombies slowly coming through the fog, each round a radio would emanate a static sound, after a certain number of rounds Richtofen’s voice will tell you that you can go, if you choose to, you run again no round number would show, the zombies are constantly coming, you run, in the distance its a town, you run to it, you see its the Asylum again, and like before it would start like Classic Zombies, and again you would fight the zombies off until Richtofen calls again, again you run to the next map, its a town, it looks like a factory, oh god is Der Riese, this is where you do the main easter egg, you need to fight a boss, to kill it you need the Wunderwaffe but its not strong enough, you need a new power source, a Aether battery will do it, it blocks you into Teleporter C Room, you fight and fire the Overpowered Wunderwaffe, it creates a black hole, the only way to escape is the teleporter, you all jump in and activate it, the teleporter goes into over drive due to the Aether battery overloading it, you teleport and appear in the theatre, once its complete the world map opens and you see Nacht, Verrückt and Der Riese as round base maps to enjoy knowing the next game will start in Berlin and this time its Kino and Mauer combined, Stadt Der Toten

Ok one thing I’ve hated about COD Zombies is the whole style its gone to, again Verrückt had the right idea, the whole horror atmosphere of it was perfect, even COD WW2 had it right with the intro and style of the monsters. It just worked, no bright colorful shit just gritty, dirty, war torn, No glowing animated shit on the gun either, the guns would be a cross between DieselPunk and Steampunk, when pack a punched they would have this pattern like the kintsugi or just to make people happy, how Kylo Ren looked when he repaired his helmet, the cracks would glow, the sun would never show either, the fog would block it, you would see the silhouettes of the Undead but thats it, sometimes the fog will darken and the thunder will strike with red lightning and the sirens will echo.

Which weapons too, what era, well it would be a combination of Cold War Era weapons but they would be mystery box, most of the guns will be either WW2 or WW1 era so I would use alot of BF1 ideas of weapons because seriously they were unique, Howell and the M1903 experimental.

Last one, I know this was indepth and I should be asleep by now but this is the last one, who do you play as? YOU.

You build your character, as you progress and do side easter eggs to unlock clothes some with links to the past like Nikolai’s goggles, Dr Monty’s Red scarf or Milton’s watch and certain abilities, wanna have more time as a ghost, choose the Wraith perk, you wanna take more damage choose tank. This would be your story, you pick the history to get your starter kit, so was you a sniper, you get a obrez pistol, you a detective? Webley, you a spy Walther PPK. You make the character your own.

Only a select classic characters would appear Eddie of course is one, both versions of Sam and this time, Sophia and Maxis you will see them in the flesh as human beings and you’ll see how evil they are in game.

And on that note, thats what I would do with COD Zombies but I can’t forget one last thing I would do, Benn would make the Zombies Easter Eggs songs with Almora singing from Sam’s P.O.V and Benn as Eddie. So I will end with this go check out Benn’s cover of Carrion as more is coming and you better be ready, she is coming to blow your mind with her vocals.

So till then cheerio
